Environmentally Sustainable Design principles have been incorporated into the Ashgrove Golf Club development proposal. There are six key areas for incorporation and implementation of ESD principles:

LAND | The area focuses on the need to preserve and regenerate the land and ecology of the site, as well as consideration of the impacts on the surrounds and the wider environment.

WATER MANAGEMENT | Water management addresses the need to minimise consumption of mains potable water, through use of alternative supplies and water conservation fi ttings, fi xtures and practices.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION | Energy management addresses the need to minimise consumption of mains power supply through the use of alternative supplies, designed to suit the climate and conservation fi ttings, appliances and practices.

BUILDING MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS SELECTION | Building materials and products have a substantial eff ect on all aspects of the environment through their lifecycle from extraction, manufacture, distribution, construction and demolition.

WASTE MANAGEMENT | This area focuses on waste minimisation during the construction phase and waste disposal for residents.

SOCIAL ELEMENTS | Social sustainability issues refer to all of the aspects of the environment that relate to people and how they live in society. Some measures include:

  • Provision of bicycle racks for public and private use.
  • Provision of meeting places and an active street frontage to encourage social interaction.
